After two years absence due to COVID 19 it was a pleasure to have the return of this event, arranged by The Friends. of Saint Dionysius The concert was held in the Parish Church on Wednesday the 13th of April.

Sadly, due to COVID some regulars were unable to attend. However, an audience of fifty plus were able to reflect and enjoy some wonderful reflective music in keeping with Holy week. Ireland’s Greater Love, and Lotti’ simple Crucifixus opened the programme Conductor David Necklen included the late Leicester teacher Jack Griffin’s arrangements of Now the Green Blade Riseth and his Spring Carol.

Vaughn Williams’ O Taste and See and Luboff’s Were You There? , as well as Bairstow’s ,I sat down under His shadow were included in the concert and the audience joined with Cantamici in the hymns My Song Is Love Unknown and There is A Green. Hill

The Choir was in good voice and well accompanied by Simon Headley on the organ. The evening concluded with Faure’s Requiem in which the baritone soloist was John Thawley and the Soprano part taken over at short notice by Claire Bodison.

Cantamici’ singing in all parts, under the excellent guidance of their conductor and with skilled the playing of the organ accompanist set the tone and mood for an enjoyable and a suitably apt preparation for the second half of Holy Week.

Thank you all involved in seeing this event took place and supported it.
