The Friends’ Committee under the leadership of Chairman John were pleased they went ahead with the concert. It proved to be hugely worthwhile, a most enjoyable, entertaining evening of brass banding presented by some very gifted and talented youngsters. In November YB2000 won their first National contest since lockdown at the Sage Gateshead.

Here at St. Dionysius the audience filled the central aisles and some overspill to the sides and galleries and were treated to a vibrant evening of foot and finger tapping. The versatile programme also treated us to two terrific soloists – a trombonist and a flugelhorn player, who delivered the appreciative audience with their skilled musicianship.

Under the guidance of conductor Gary Fountain the first half featured Bond themes, a medley of brass favourites, the wonderful Bring Me Sunshine and Sing Sing Sing.

After the interval the programme continued with Gary who gave interesting comments on each number. The second half was a chance to focus on the message and festivities of the Christmas season.

Youth Brass 2000 were a welcome treat and were warmly appreciated. They represent a strong reminder of what talents abound in the younger generation: as they say where my roots are; ‘it was a reet good neet’!

‘Here’s to the next time’, to quote band leader of days gone by, Henry Hall.

Many Thanks to all who were involved and supported the evening event’s success!
